  • A UK furniture store, HomeArena (they do sell mattresses, which is likely the purpose of this research)  surveyed 21 successful people. These participants included the likes of Richard Branson, Ellen DeGeneres, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, all of whom seem to have a pretty good track record. More than 50% of those surveyed , including the above-mentioned, averaged 6 to 8 hours of sleep. For the most part, the majority of these movers and shakers turn in at 11 pm and wake between 5 and 6 am.
  • Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg reports making 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night a priority. She realized that after becoming a mother, she and her child functioned similarly when they didn’t get enough sleep. I’m sure those of us who are parents can relate to that!
  • The Dalai Lama is recognized for saying ,“Sleep is the best meditation.” He averages between 8 and 9 hours nightly. He strongly believes that sleep is essential for a calm mind throughout the day.
  • People rely on cognitive skills that are so important to the workday. When you are sleep deprived, your ability to focus, be creative, concentrate, reason and recall suffer. A. Thomas Perkins, a sleep expert and director of the Sleep Medicine Program at Raleigh Neurology in North Carolina explains why: “This system sort of flushes the brain of all metabolic waste, and it does this every night, getting in between the cells and neurons, purging the brain of the metabolic byproducts of the day … You essentially have a brain trying to function the next day with junk laying around – metabolic byproduct and wastes that interfere with its functioning,”
